Myth #1: I can recycle a pizza box
Since there are food particles in a pizza box, you can not recycle the pizza box. In fact, placing the pizza box in the recycling can contaminate the whole recycling bin.
Myth #2: I can’t recycle batteries
You can recycle car batteries, household and button batteries, and rechargeable batteries. Recycling one car battery can produce multiple new batteries. Instead of tossing the dead batteries for your TV remote, you can place them in your recycling bin.
Myth #3: Only white paper is recyclable
You can recycle office paper, cardboard, newspapers, magazines and paperboard which is used in cereal boxes. You can also recycle phone books and mail.
Myth #4: I can recycle paper cups
Paper cups are not recyclable due to a plastic lining inside of the cup. Instead of grabbing a coffee in a paper cup, bring your own cup to your coffee shop.
Myth #5: It doesn’t matter what I’m recycling, someone will sort it for me
Non recyclables are constantly being placed in recycling bins, which only adds to the cost of recycling. Placing non recyclables in the recycling bin causes contamination, wastes space, jams the machinery, and can be hazardous for workers. Recycle right to decrease the cost and not add to the landfills.
